Sundry Works Help · Instagram & Facebook

Posting to Instagram and Facebook

Connect your accounts so you can post directly from Sundry Works.

What it's for

Sundry Works can publish your branded post images and captions directly to Instagram and Facebook - no downloading and re-uploading. The connection uses Meta's free developer tools and only takes about 15 minutes to set up. You only do this once.

This works with your own accounts only. Your credentials are encrypted on your computer and never leave it.

Before you start

Make sure you have all three of these in place. If any are missing, the connection will fail:

If your Instagram is linked to your personal Facebook profile instead of your Facebook Page, the connection will fail silently. Make sure the link goes to the Page.

Phase 1: Create a Meta Developer App

  1. Go to developers.facebook.com and log in with the Facebook account that manages your Page.
  2. Click My Apps (top right), then Create App.
  3. For the use case, select "Manage everything on your Page" - do not pick "Facebook Login" (that only gives login permissions, not publishing).
  4. If asked to choose a business portfolio, select the one that contains your art/brand Page.
  5. Name the app anything you like (e.g. "Sundry Works") and click Create.
  6. Go to App Settings > Basic in the left sidebar. Copy the App ID and App Secret - you'll paste them into Sundry Works later.

Phase 2: Add the required use cases

  1. In your app dashboard, click Use Cases in the left sidebar. You should already see "Manage everything on your Page."
  2. Click Add use case and select "Instagram Content Publishing."
  3. Inside that use case, add your Instagram Business account using the "Add account" button.
  4. After adding it, you may be listed as an Instagram Tester with a Pending status. To accept: open Instagram, go to Settings > Website permissions > Apps and Websites > Tester Invites, and accept the invitation.
  5. Back on the Use Cases page, click Add use case again and select "Facebook Login."
  6. Under each use case, check that these permissions are all toggled on: instagram_basic, instagram_content_publish, pages_manage_posts, pages_read_engagement, pages_show_list, and business_management.

If adding your Instagram account through the Roles page gives a "Form can't be saved" error, use the Instagram Content Publishing use case page's "Add account" button instead.

Phase 3: Set the redirect URI

  1. In the left sidebar, find Facebook Login and click Settings underneath it.
  2. In the Valid OAuth Redirect URIs field, paste: http://localhost:31338/callback
  3. On the next line of the same box, paste: https://sundry.works/api/connect.php
  4. Click Save Changes.

Two addresses, and both are wanted. The first is where the sign-in comes home to when you do it at the computer; the second is where it comes home to when you do it on the phone. The box takes as many as you like and adding one does not remove the other, so put both in and either window works. You may also see an "Enforce HTTPS" toggle set to Yes that won't turn off. That's fine - leave it. The localhost address is automatically exempt from HTTPS enforcement.

Phase 4: Connect in Sundry Works

  1. Open the Configuration tab and find the "Post to Instagram & Facebook" card.
  2. Paste your App ID and App Secret, then click Save app.
  3. Click "Connect to Meta." Your web browser will open to Facebook's authorization page.
  4. When asked which Pages to give access to, select the Page that has your Instagram linked - not a different page you manage.
  5. If asked to choose a business portfolio, select the one that owns your art/brand Page.
  6. After authorizing, you'll see "Connected!" in the browser. Return to Sundry Works - the card should show your connected Page.

If you manage multiple Facebook Pages, pay close attention during authorization. Selecting the wrong page is the most common reason the connection fails.

Publishing a post

This works on the computer and on the phone, and so does connecting the account in the first place. The computer sends the post itself; the phone hands it to the scheduler for this minute, and it lands within about a minute of the press.

The caption comes from the social captions you wrote on the Story tab. Edits you make in the publish card are just for that one post - they don't change the saved caption.

  1. Open a painting and go to the Post tab.
  2. Select an Instagram or Facebook format.
  3. The publish card appears at the bottom with your caption. Review and edit it if needed.
  4. Click "Publish to Instagram" or "Publish to Facebook."

Troubleshooting

Your Meta app stays in "development mode," which means only you can use it. This is free, requires no app review, and works indefinitely.
